New to all this
Hi all,
Have been reading this forum for a while now and have decided to finally get my feet wet and join in.
I have a 2001 GU 4.5 and have had it for about 6 years, I am hoping to do the big lap in 2018.
I have thrown all sorts of ideas around for about 2 years now whether to sell and buy a diesel, or to do an engine conversion to a V8, but I have recently decided to stick with what I've got and make the most of it, it has been a great rig so far and I've had heaps of great trips (although smaller) so far and never had any problems apart from the usual "thirsty" problem everyone seems to talk about.
It is currently dual fuel but removing the LPG in the next few weeks and fitting a long range tank (146ltr?) to go with the 70ltr sub tank.
I've already made a few of the easier mods - 2nd glove box, roof console - myself, have fitted a roof rack and side awning, and just fixed a cracked coil tower and fitted 2 new boss coil tower braces, but things are about to get serious, so for now I'm hoping I can get some great advice to help me out when I need it, and maybe one day I will know enough to perhaps give some back and help out.
Thanks in advance,
D
P.S. Gertie is the name of my car, I call it that because my father always used to say "come on Gertie" whenever he was driving and for some reason it stuck with me.

Welcome to the forum. I think that if the 4.5 is in good condition you can spend a little to give it a thorough service and keep it. It might be a tad thirsty but if reliable will be cheaper than doing an engine conversion. If you buy another second hand diesel then you don't know the problems it might have. If buying brand new then it's a different kettle of fish.
