    tail brake lights

My GU has no right rear brake or tail lights and I need some ideas as I have no wiring diagrams. Fuses are good and changed the globe.

    Simon,

This might seem like an odd question but do you have the factory towbar?

Simon are you refering to the lights in the body?? If you are they are blank except for one reverse light.
You can buy a loom from Patrolapart with globe housing and do it yourself. if bumper lights are playing up
and you have a towbar fitted look where they have spliced into the OE loom.
Some places use scotch loks and they are bound to fail , re solder all joins for trouble free action

Its the bumper lights as I know the right side brake housing next to spare wheel is a fake light set up. I will check the splicing on the towbar as im not sure if its a aftermarket or genuine towbar. Thanks for the help guys

    Simon,

I am glad you said you have the towbar, as I had a similar problem with my 2003 model, where my lights stopped working too.

My problem was the absolutely crap quality towbar loom with the thinnest wiring known to man and the wires snapped off at the plug. They unplug the factory light plug off the bumper light and insert the towbar loom in-between to get power to the trailer plug. To check if this is your problem unplug the factory plug and towbar loom, and plug the factory plug in direct.....

And I thought the factory loom was thin .... the aftermarket towbar loom was embarrassing ... Nissan even replaced it under warranty, even though I was over time. I think they couldnt believe how thin it was either....

my story was similar I had the towbar fitted by a known named outlet, first time I towed my camper
I had problems, if it wasnt brake lights it was indicators or the trailer brakes themselves.
I got my son to solder every joint on the camper that worked for a couple of trips.
Then we looked where the loom was spliced and saw a heap of scotch loks, well that when I spat the dummy big time at the shop.
They[shop] offered to solder all joints, but thought if I do it myself it will be done properly,, parkers, indicators, brakes all worked.
But one wire I missed as it was tucked up inside the guard.{bumper]
Now everything is working as it should all soldered and heat shrink applied.
If you ever see scotch loks on you Patrol remove them they WILL fail,
my towbar is a Hayman Reece 3.5t and wires used is just 4mm 7 core trailer wire and a round plug
