Hi guys, just purchased my first ever Nissan Patrol! It's a 2001 GU. It's pretty stock but is in fairly good knick.
Question, I've purchased it from a dealer and they're offering to install a snorkel for me. Just want a get a ball park idea of what a fitted snorkel to a GU patrol should cost?
Also, are there any particular brands, fitters that I should take it to, or is a fairly straight forward mod and would any half decent operator be able to install it?
You could do it yourself if your handy with tools , but it should take a bit over 3 hrs I think
most 4x4 shops would know how its done
Where abouts in Melb are you I could sort something out for you

04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
If I had my time again I'd get a safari or similar that can take a pre filter and that the head can do a 180 degree turn not like the genuine one the factory snorkel just turns to the side. . Though I've never had any issues with my factory one. A snorkel will set you back 75$ through to 600$ + fitting. It is easy enough to fit one with the right tools.
I went TJM which I think is air teck or Safari.
Steer clear of those cheap ones the templates aren't to scale and sometimes they dont fit the body contours.
If you like your pride and joy go a brand name snorkel

I had a safari snorkel installed in my 2008 GU for around $600-$700 from memory - I had a look around at the real cheap eBay ones, a tjm / airtec and also factory nissan (which I think are an airtec too), but personal preference I think the safari looked better.
I've heard good thinks about about the ironman snorkels as well, and they can be had for a little bit cheaper.
I was going to install it myself, but didn't have all the correct size / good quality holesaws so was easier to pay to have it done
2008 GU6 3.0 CRD AUTO | Safari Snorkel | 2" Ironman lift kit | Runva 11XP Winch | 33" MTZ's | Full Length Roof Rack | GME TX3200 | 30" LED Light Bar |
I had an Ironman fitted and it is good. When I was looking around the safari seemed the best but a bit expensive for me. Ironman is good quality I think. I Had mine fitted as I was a bit apprehensive about cutting big holes in the guard. As TD said watch out for really cheap ones as I am told the plastic may warp and/or disintegrate in the sun. Not a good look in Australia.
No one wants a wilted snorkel.

2005 GU IV ST 3.0. Snorkel. Roof rack. Awning. Spots. Welded I/C. Dual batteries & VSR. UHF. Barn door hinge extension. Roof top spot lights. Rear drawers. 2" lift. NADS. EGT and boost gauges. Trans temp and water temp gauges. Provent 200 catch can. Rear ladder
And crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race. Lost in time. And lost in space... and meaning.
A mate bought one off ebay for 75$ and we fitted it about 3 yrs ago and its not changed, it had a 6mm gap between it and the body when it was installed but the gaps not changed.
Thanks all for your responses. Will definitely go the brand name (TJM/Safari). The dealer couldn't tell me what sort of snorkel they were fitting so I think I'll just leave it for now. Will look into doing it myself as I am ok with the tools

Dealer will most likely install a genuine Nissan one, which are made by TJM and very similar if not the same as a TJM Airtec
