    Really only need to support shoulders and hips

    Best solution is under mattress mesh available from caravan shops. Needs an air gap. Definitely don’t use a plastic sheet it will make things worse.

    Moisture is sweat with nowhere to go. We all lose moisture overnight. Circulating air under the mattress allows it to evaporate & not build up.

    This is the sort of mesh I mean. Not cheap though, but lasts forever.

    An alternative is to re-cover the stretchers with a suitable open weave material which is not waterproof.

    I saw stretchers the other day with mesh instead of canvas for the base I'll try and find them
    I thought it was just to let sand fall through

    You knob clunk. They get wet from the mattress getting wet underneath. The kids are passed weeing themselves. Mind you. I wouldn't mind using that sheeting for myself.
