Wanted 4.2 Diesel turbo, genuine, new or recond

Had a service of the diesel yesterday.

It is a totally different vehicle. HP +22% at rear wheel, Torque +18%, Boost from 9ish to 13psi an increase of 44% Their gauges mine read a little different (9.6 to 14.7). EGT about 100 degrees lower!

I do have a small problem in that the turbo is slow to start building pressure. It runs at 2 psi when it should be 4. It builds up with revs fine, just no bottom end.

So I am looking for a reconditioned genuine (exchange?) or new genuine turbo for the 4.2 intercooled.

In no hurry but would like to get it done. Been advised to keep away from eBay / Chinese.

Any help would be appreciated, I have looked at a few sites, including Patrol-A-Part, but they don't have them for the 4.2.

    Ta Iain Mac

Mate can you explain the benefits?

My turbo puts out all I need at top end revs, but is "leaking or has a By-Pass issue" at low revs.

A boost control has been fitted to optimise air / fuel / power.

The thing is tuned for engine life and fuel economy, they said anything over 125 RWBHP is going to create a significant difference in fuel usage.

More boost at lower revs is really what I'm after, cheers Stropp

Macca when are you seeing max boost (at what rpm)?

Im with stropp if funds permit then an upgrade would be recommended.

Max boost is about 2100 rpm - 2400 rpm. That's on my boost gauge.

Talking to an engine tuner who worked on my car about the turbo showing signs of wear, it needs a recond and I needed some advice on what to do.

Specifically what the hi-flow version of the standard turbo is like on these cars. He said I will lose bottom end but gain some mid to top and it will be very frustrating for me.

That surprised me, not what I thought it was all about at all. His advice is to leave it stock get good all round performance and longevity.

Got to admit that has a nice sound about it! So I will get the one on the car recond to OEM spec.
