Exclamation Instrument Cluster From Series 1 to Series 2

    Hey Guys,

I have a 1990 4.2 Diesel Patrol, my instrument cluster shat itself, so I bought a series 2 4.2 Diesel instrument cluster off him that he had lying around.

The only things that work straight up is the Indicators, High Beam, Tacho & the Handbrake Light. I got the 2 clusters together to see how much different they were and you almost have to change every pin around. The centre plug has to have 2 extra pins thanks to the door & low fuel dash light. I have gotten the Oil pressure & Temp gauge working.

I changed all the pins over to where they should be, and now the Glow plug lights up, and some of the dash lights come on and drop off like normal. I think its the coolant light, stays up & there is nothing wrong with the radiator or coolant level. The fuel gauge goes all the way up & there is only bout 1/2 a tank in my truck. the Volt metre, speedo & odometre. (I know the odometre works because it is from the old cluster the only thing that still works. The battery Light goes out but the volt metre moves just off the pin. Guessing its broken along with the fuel gauge)

If anyone has done this successfully in the past or is just simply awesome at this sorta thing PLEASE help!

Any help will be very much appreciated!

P.S. Here are some photo's of the two clusters.

    Series 1

    Series 2

Very difficult predicament you have there with a very gloomy outcome I think.
What was wrong with yours? Why couldn't you just swap the guages over into your housing?

Yeah it costs around $100+ to get it repaired, where to swap was free.

I have been driving without a speedo for over 6 months. No fines, No speed camera violations. I do alot of driving in areas with speed cameras for work. Yes it may be unroadworthy at the moment but, the plan is to have it all fixed by mid april, rego is due at the end. So willing that work continues to be good & consistant I will not have a problem with paying someone to do it. But right now my top priority is getting my exhaust redone. Crimped the mid section and needed to remove it... so come monday it will actually have an exhaust again.
