GQ 4.2 Diesel with Std H18 turbo GU Motor

Here is a bit of a curly question guys,

Am doing a TB42e to TD42t conversion on the ole bus and Diesel the motor bolts straight in with no modifications to engine mounts or anything structural.

The motor is out of a 99 GU and will have a standard Turbo spec set up.

My question is . . . . Do you need Engineers certificate in Victoria?

I keep hearing mixed opinions and was after a definitive answer from someone who may have done the conversion.

My argument for not getting an engineers cert are as follows:

1 No structural changes to the car at all
2 The Nissan Patrol came with a 4.2 turbo diesel in the GU (Which is the same chassis as the GQ) so the emissions should not need to be checked.
3 It seems to me that there are so many GQ's on the road with Turbos in them they cant all be Engineered - -- Can they ??
4 My insurance company doesn't mind the conversion as long as i don't super charge it or change the car structurally

Any experiences on this guys ?

    Many thanks
    She'll be right mate
    it's a GQ

I don't know the answer to your question Andy, hopefully someone will, but I couldn't help but comment on your logic. Makes sense to me but since when did lawmakers look at logic?
    Good luck with it.

Yes you will need an Engineer for the Turbo. The GQ did not come out with a TD42T unfortunately and the Cops are Pinging guys all over the place Right Now for Turbos. f they pull you over, and they will, they will lift the bonnet and start writing.

Give Patrol-a-part a call mate, they have indicated on their FB page recently that they have sorted the Engineering of a Turbo on the TD42. Its such a little thing damn it, if your gong to Engineer though consider the rest of your setup and its a good time to have a 3" lift etc signed off at the same time..

I run the gauntlet but my day will come.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

dealer optioned would have some paperwork with them so as Darren said you will need paperwork to have it legal.imho, i probably should look at getting some of my gear done as well like seats and the lift, of topic a bit but funny thing is i was reading about graham cahill installing spots on top of his bullbar and saying that according to adrs it meets the 9 mtr rule so not illegal, i wounder if he can talk his way out of getting a sticker when the time comes.

Yeah anything from the dealer should have been Modplated, the VicPol are having a field day at the moment on GQs and anything with a Turbo is fair game. I know at least 5 guys that have been done this year and that does not include another 20 i have read about on FB. Turbos and LED light bars are getting hammered.

Interestingly, when i fitted my MTQ system i asked for a Letter of compliance i could use with my Insurance company. at this time the letter below was enough, i dont think the local Cops would give it a second glance though and would go the Yellow Sticker in a blink.

yep the cops just throw the sticker on as that is their job even if you have engineering etc over here they will still whack a sticker on as they just dont care and its the inconvenience of taking it in to get the sticker removed that sucks.

    Useless fact No: 18

Nissan did release factory turbo on gq's but extremely, note extremely rare.

I thought they were dealer options?
