Ask Ben-e-boy how many rwkw his td42 puts out. You may want to eat those words you just said.

Mudski then ask ben how much time effort money has gone into it then ask how drive able the engine would be for touring

Haha! But it was said they were still gutless with a heap of money thrown at them. Not how drivable it is.

Why do you think it's not suitable for touring?

Lightened fly wheel, if a custom part breaks where do you get it from out bush? Once you start pushing power you gotta lose something normally reliability. I know ben e boy has done it right I've been in his rig its a weapon but this next push of power he's doing could lead to extra stresses

G'day Shane'o and welcome to the forum.... Just to throw a spanner in the works, my 06 GU patrol has a 6.5l diesel chevy intercooled, turbo-charged V8, that is very nearly older than me in it, but a heck of a lot of fun to drive and hasn't given me any trouble (to date). My first patrol was a 4.2 non-turbo'd GQ. It wasn't fast by any stetch of the imagination but one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. My next was a 98 GU 4.5l petrol wagon. A nice wagon but weak on power.

My advice after all of this... take both the 4.2 and 3.0 for a drive and see what you like best. As the guys and girls have said, it depends on what you want to do with it and if you intend to modify it at all. ( also... the more cylinders, the better. )

    Just my 2 cents.
2006 Ser IV GU, 6.5l TD V8 Chev with 4spd Auto, 3in Lift, 35in Kumho's, 12000lb winch, Nissan snorkel, Diff breathers, lightbar + Lightforce HD spots on roofrack. Built to go bush.

    Yeah but it's a TD42, it won't break down =]

Much has been mentioned about power in this thread. Any of these 2 engines would go like clappers if a heap of $$$ has been thrown at them.
My main concern in deciding would be the reliability, even when stock. If I knew this much about the 3L, as I do now, back when I was deciding, things would be a lot different.
