    Diff help please

    My son has wrecked his rear diff in his GU 2.8TD, diff ratio are 4.6, as I live in Tassi they are hard to get hold of, anyway my question is a chap here has a pair of GQ diffs with 4.3 ratio his was 4.2 diesel, would I be able to use these, and if I could what differences would I notice?

    Yes but you will need both. They will go straight in. Your sons car will be a little sluggish though.

    You will get reasonable coin for the 4.6front though.

    I would chase a wrecker like Readies in Bedigo and he will ship a rear 4.6 to you mate. Freight will be less that $100 for a whole 3rd member and that will bolt straight in. No need to set up backlash or clearances. Strip and swap. 4.6s will be better for the 2.8
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

    The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    Yes, my advice would be to also stick with the 4.6 Ratio ......

    Should be able to pick up just a rear diff from the wreckers cheap as

    Mic
    GU PATROL 2011 Ti, with goodies...

    The money you save on buying the 4.3s will be lost on the performance of the vehicle on the road, lack of ability offroad and increase in fuel usage due to the change in ratio.
    The 2.8 is not really a power house at the best of times and the change in ratio could make a big enough difference that you will not enjoy the vehicle for what it should be.
    The bigger engines tend to soak up a ratio change or over size tyre far easier then the 2.8 will.

    The car will still drive and will get you from a to b but I think you would be best of spending the dollars on a 4.6.
