Hi
I was hoping some of the members could give me some advice on how to fix a couple of slow leaks (weeps?) and if I can do it myself or need to take it to a garage with special tools. I was under my Patrol last week (2011 GU 3.0L cab chassis) and noticed some oil on the transfer case and transmission. I degreased under the car and then drove it for a week to see where the leaks were coming from.
They appear to be from 1) Transfer case bolts 2) Transfer Case fill plug and 2) Transmission fill plug. I have attached some photos of the leaks below
It has 113,000km on the odometer so is out of new car warranty. It does have an additional 3 year extended warranty (KaCare). But I just checked the small print and while it covers mechanical components it specifically excludes oil leaks.
Double checked, Tranfer case bolts (47.5Nm) and both Filler plugs (34Nm) are at the upper limit of their correct torque settings (41-48Nm and 25-34Nm respectively)
How long before the leaks appeared had the driveline been serviced?
With some luck, it may just be some residual fluid from the service and not a leak.
Fingers crossed
Hi just notice i have a drop if oil hanging off of the bottom bolt just behind the weep hole doesnt look like theres oil coming from the weep hole . Was wondering if i pull this bolt out to loctite it will oil come rushing out ?
