Yeah there shouldn't be any issues using Firefox folks.
When you click on a PDF download from any site using FF a window should pop up asking if you want to open or save the doc.
Just click open and then the PDF should open up.
I just tested this now and it works 100% using FF.

Interestingly, I have no problem downloading the GU manuals with firefox, the ones that have been zipped that is. Seems to be only pdf files that I am having trouble with when using firefox. No matter, it worked ok with explorer, so if someone is struggling with it try that and it might work for you. It would be nice to know what the problem is if there are any gurus out there. I hate Explorer but have no idea why Firefox won't do this. Yes I followed the instructions aswell.

Agreed...... I'd be checking your plugins to see if your Adobe Acrobat/reader is up to date. Plugins are set to auto update by default so if its not then its a good indication its corruped & the easiest fix in these circumstances is to uninstall the Adobe plugin itself & reinstall the newer version.
The other thing that may be stopping your downloads using Firefox is script blocking software you may have installed as a plugin at some point. all you'll need to do here is change the permissions in the script blocker to allow these file types.

He wouldn't be running IE if its a Mac he's using, he'd be using Safari as a default browser.

Me neither but if he's using IE its fairly safe to assume he's running a Microsoft operating system, same as if he said he was using Safari I'd assume he's using a Mac.
