Swap rd28t with 3.3td patrol tr

    Hi,
I use my patrol for serious off road and I'm thinking to swap rd28t with 3.3td, what do you think?
I've found the engine in the photo.
    Is it a better engine?
Is the 3.3td easy to be installed in Y60?

The SD33td is about the best motor that nissan put into the MK patrol - good reliable motor. With a bigger exhaust etc it gave a bit more power as well.

I have heard of a gq in Singapore ? that had a sd33td fitted - don't know how it went.

I believe the main problem you will have is the bell housing.

I suspect the rd28T has the same bell housing as a RB30 - similar to the L28 petrol engine fitted in the MK - have a look at http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/mq.html - as this had a lot of info on Mq / MK

Power wise the Rd has 5 more Kw, while the SD33td has 20NM more taruqe

I saw a gq on ebay a few months ago that had a SD33t engine fitted. It looked like either a factory fit or a very good retrofit. Have a look at clutch part catalogues- they may give you a clue if it will bolt up. Would be a darn sight cheaper than a td42 and not a bad engine either.
