    auto problem

Hi, my tb42e auto is playing up. It takes a while to select drive and reverse but can select 1st 2nd fine. Have to take off in 2nd and slap it into drive or stall it up for it to select. Anyone had this problem before? It's a very weird fault. Once it's been driven for a while it selects fine. Any help greatly appreciated

New oil and oil filter already done. I did that as I thought maybe the oil had lost its viscosity and wasn't creating enough pressure, however this hasn't changed a thing.

If once it's been driven for a while, it's fine... To me that sounds like oil or low on oil ? Have you checked that?

I'd start with dropping the pan and washing out the gauze filter and flushing it completely with some good synthetic fluid.
Once you get the pan off you'll see by the amount of debris in there if it's overhaul time or not..

Hi there, I have moved this thread to the gearbox section of the forum and deleted your other thread, please only post up the question in one thread.

Could be a range of things, there is a procedure list in the workshop manual for testing the auto.

It could be a faulty temp sensor.

I would suggest finding a good auto trans specialist and not just a mechanic 2 have a look at it.

Agree with NissanGQ4.2......... I was thinking transmission fluid but could other things that we could only guess at. No point trying to guess when it come to transmissions, take it to a transmission specialist and let them diagnose the fault properly

Oil level or hard seals can cause this check oil with engine running in park if level is good might be hard seals and only a rebuild can fix that might have to drop it into an auto specialist over night for them to diagnose it properly.
