    Yeah I walked out yesterday after an hour or so and half a dozen guns. He was trying to sell me a zastava from Eastern Europe. It had a Mauser action that I was not sure i liked.

    At this stage it really is a numbers game, I have a very limited budget and want to get in with a Rifle plus scope for around $1000.

    I could get the Savage package with a scope for $700 and might look at a 223 in this just for a pop gun for foxes. Might then look at upgrading the scope and using that scope on a 22 for Zach maybe.

    The Tika starts at around $1100 plus scope and will spend around $1500 all up. I just can't do that now. Maybe in a couple of years sell the Ruger and upgrade to a Tika but I'd prefer to buy 2 guns in a 30-06 and 223 and get out there and see how I like it.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

    The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    Just like the American ruger the savage will let you down in the first year a specially when you see what others have.

    Just like the advice you would offer others about 4wd gear buy once..

    Now I would spend more on the rifle for now and get a better scope when you can afford it.

    Why not use https://www.usedguns.com.au and get a good 2nd hand firearm? My .22 was $150 shoots great. Any smaller calibre up say a 270 or 308 max would be fine 2nd hand

    This is what I did for the first 3 years of shooting as did Irish... we have fumbled around with 2nd hand guns trying to figure out what we liked...

    I have owned about 20 different rifles and its only been the last 3 or so years I have settled down to rifles I am happy with.

    Funny thing is that a couple of the cheap rifles have turned out to be old old faithful and will always keep.

    I still like the remington over a ruger just feels better.
    Great price for a sako tikka is the poor man's sako like Stevens is the poor man's savage
    And a ruger for you if you're really set on it.

    Nisshead you would want more that a 223 or 243 should you get charged by a big pig or in most states legally or at least ethically take a red deer in your neck of the woods. Shooting a red with anything under a 270 is frowned apon. My mates and myself feel that while cheaper to shoot with a 223 you can be left wanting and a 22/250 or 243 is a better option. Unless shooting hundreds of rounds a year cost of ammo shouldn't matter you should be concerned with a tight group

    I have a Zastava 243. It is a little different to the current ones, as mine is a bit older. It's a great rifle and I'm more than happy with it. Reload rounds and found a sweet load that shoots sub MOA. Synthetic stock, hunter barrel, fully adjustable trigger, extremely reliable and strong action as proven by over many years (Mauser 98 action).

    Zastava manufactured barrelled actions for Remington and was sold as Remington 798.

    I wouldn't hesitate in recommending one.
