    UHF choice.... opinions please?

I have a GME tx3100 mounted in front of the transfer selector in my 2006 Patrol but don't like where it is or the sound of it. I also have an unused GME tx3520 with the wireless remote and a Uniden UH400sx in my Triton with the RM100 remote mic which has been a pleasure to use. I want to de-clutter the dash a bit. Any advice on which is the better unit or where to mount would be appreciated

Do you have any switches mounted in the centre console opposite to the handbrake? If not I have seen some people mount it in there....I use the GME TX3540S and all the buttons are on the hand piece so my unit is hidden under the console and I have a RJ45 plug mounted in the dash for the hand piece. Personal choice really on where you want it...

I have the Gme Tx3540 mounted under/behind the glovebox and the hand piece connects to the socket on the console.

Thanks guys. Wish I had a fully remote mic on the GME's like yours. The Uniden does but its a bigger unit so back in the Triton it goes. Ended up mounting the tx3520 under the dash with the face unit next to my leg and the press to talk on the steering wheel and a fairly big external speaker next to the cup holders. I'll post a pic......overlook the grubby interior, just got back from a little trip :-)

The original uhf was mounted where the subwoofer gain control (with the red light) now resides

This pic should explain which antenna u should get. For Simpson desert I would say a high gain antenna.

2012 GU Patrol Simpson Edition. Auto. UHF, Bull Bar, 2" lift with Koni shocks, dobinson coils. 3" stainless Steel Exhaust.

Depends what you call high gain.

The Simpson is a significant amount of dune travel IE the vehicle is pointing at the moon or the dirt 50 metres in front therefore so is your antenna radiation lobe.

I would def not recommend anything higher than 6 dBi and 4.5 dBi would be close to ideal

8 or 9 dBi co-linears etc would be fairly problematic and cause comms issues unless you are both on top of a dune

Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.
