    I'm going to Israel....

Hey guys found out some good news this week that I've been selected to be 1 of 15 going to Israel with my uni course There is a couple of hundred students in my year so didn't think I would be in with a chance. I'm a Paramedic student and we will be doing shifts with the Israeli paramedics (MDA) so hopefully should get some interesting stuff over there.

Anyone been to Israel? Any hot tips or must see places? We are restricted from going to places like Gaza etc but hopefully get plenty of time to see some sights.

    Gday sooty,

Hope you don't mind being around lots of guns and being scanned with metal detectors when going into shopping centers or restaurants. It was a little unnerving when I was there a few years ago.

Having said that some of the historic sites are pretty spectacular. Mesada down the southern end of the dead sea is well worth a look as is going for a swim in the dead sea. Up around the Golan Heights was also good for a look.

Driving around in Tel Aviv was pretty crazy, be interesting to hear what it is like for the paramedics to get around.

A friend of mine also crossed over to Jordan and went to Petra which he said was awesome.

Hope it goes well for you.

I'm happy with lots of guns I used to be in the army before starting uni so more than understanding of their security measures. Like anything the only people that need to worry are the ones not doing the right thing. Apparently approx. 20% of the incidences the paramedics go to are motor vehicle related so Tel Aviv sounds like the driving might be as crazy as you say. Thankfully we won't be driving the ambulance.

Thanks everyone for the info so far, I'll be there for about 3 weeks and we are leaving in about 1 month so lots to organise.
