Tell you what Tod when I saw it I was a little surprised ! Everyone should check their spring towers.
Big thanks to Danny and the guys at Sparks Trailers in Geelong for belting it back into shape and welding it up for me prior to having the tower brace fitted.
Happy days now!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Patrol God
Is that caused by cracking of the chassis, which has allowed rust in?
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

No rust.
It is the counterlever design of the spring tower on the GQ and the GU. A known weak spot. Superior do a top of tower brace kit as per the previous pages of this build and also to a Bolt In kit for the GU and GQs without a BodyLift.
I know many people that have experienced this tear. Very common in heavily loaded touring rigs that have seen allot of corrugated roads too.
Everyone should check their rear towers and keep an eye on them.
