How on earth though are you going to explain the bilge outlet staring straight at Mr Plod drivers side? Maybe just give him a quick squirt and ‘bail’ outa there even quicker :-)

Looks like that tap is dry - no lubricant. Bit of a lesson there. Regardless of chasing out a thread or tapping a new one, always use lub as the task is very high friction at best. Those coulpings must be pretty hard as well I am guessing? How close to the threads are your welds as maybe they closed up a fraction from that?
Anyway, mean set of rails darren, but don't ever call my barge heavy after seeing these!!!!

Nah i was using wd40 as lubricant. They where definitely wet. I had sprayed it clean with wd40. In that pic too using the WD to wash out the tap
