    Auto shifting into 4x4 tips

So might be a stupid question but I have a 2013 st plus. what it's the trick to shifting into 4x4 smoothly with an anto gear box up until now I've had manual
so I was out doing a bit and got the good old grinding every now and then when shifting low to high and other way.?and I'm aware you can change on the fly under 40 kph but (grind) oops !!! In a whole it's my first time 4x4ing with an auto so any tips would go down like. A Cold beer on a warm day

From 2 high to 4 high just back off the throttle a bit and slid it in.
From 4 high to 4 low you really should be stopped.
If I have to go from 4 high to 4 low if stopped on a bit of a hill or at times when the box is loaded up etc, I put the auto into neutral to relieve any pressure on the box then slide into 4 low.

    Hi mate,

There should be a placard on the drivers sun visor, it says when changing between 4H to 4L or 4L to 4H to ALWAYS STOP your vehicle.
Let me know if it's missing and I'll take a picture and post it up tomorrow.

    Enjoy the auto.

(Tried to take the pic but the flash is to strong)
    Cheers

Correct, plus Transmission must be placed into "neutral" when selecting between H & L

Thanks guys yea I've always stopped for every change but my old bus was 24 years old and well old but the new is a bit different ,I think the problem I had was that I was pushing lever down to much as in saying that I push it down to select low or high but no sure switching between the low and high do you still need to push it down or just shift like normal .i only had to change 4l to 4h a couple of times but as I said I'm new to the auto .so I dare say its best just to stop select neutral and change as needed I get it next time I'm sure just hate to grind especially when the wife is next to ya saying nice one nob nuts

The pushing "down" movement is simply a safety lockout feature, designed so you do not move the lever too far into the Low range selection accidentally while the vehicle is in motion.

Pushing down should not be required between 2H and 4H (just pull back), only push down to bypass the safety lock to get into Low range 4x4, at this time the vehicle needs to be stationary , and transmission in neutral.
