'02 GU zd30 auto box temp sensor

    Hi Guys,

I have been hunting around and trying to locate something, I think I saw something the other day but have not been able to find it again, is there a way I can remove the temp sensor in the auto g/box or at least install a work around so that it doesn't need to hit a certain temp before allowing 4th or overdrive to kick in. mine will only do it currently after about 10-15 mins of driving at 100km/h+

any help would be greatly appreciated as my drive to work currently consists of about 10 mins at 100k then the rest at 60k. so that 10 mins it sits in 3rd at 3000rpm and chews a lot of fuel

one of blokes at work (ex-mechanic by trade and the office "go to guy" for these things) reckons it's probably a dodgy solenoid. recommends a full flush. might just take it to an auto specialist.

Uuuuummmm... could be wrong but I didn't think Overdrive was minimum temperature limited like the Lock Up

thats what i had thought and was hoping to override it. mostly as i believe it to be faulty and for some strange reason cannot locate my multi meter to check the current setup. im tempted to simply replace the sensor but if it isnt the issue dont want to waste the money, time and effort for no result

My auto does exactly the same thing. It's an 03 3ltr. Then when it does go in, it shudders. Untill it warms up then it works as per normal

Mine is an 04 and is the same. Temp related . This was my main reason why I wanted to fit a manual lock up switch to over ride the temp setting . Or am I wrong thinking this way for the manual lock up switch ? I have not been using the 4b too much and funds have not been there for me to pursue this issue but I would still like to do and know .

Just to be clear I was talking about the O'drive that should be coming in not the TC lockup.
I would have thought the OP shouldn't be stuck in 3rd all the way to work.
Personally I wouldn't use a manual TC lock up to bypasss the temp switch and that won't help you get O'drive anyway.
I'd let the box get up to operating temperature

I would be getting the box looked at, they cost way to much to fix to just leave it be. That comes from personal experience too

Thanks for the replies gents , my auto mech man told me my trans is perfect and not to loose any sleep over the overdrive temp issue , really its only an issue during the winter mornings it will take 5 to 10 kms longer too select OD and most of my commute is on freeway . I have the trans serviced annually which is overkill for how I'm using it ATM but yeah the cost of an auto rebuild I just don't want to even contemplate .
