DEAD ZD30 to TD42T swap
Hey guys,
Today my engine arrived for my TD42T swap, and turns out the supplier has kind of screwed me.
After numerous phonecalls, I was promised that the engine had a "fully manual" injection pump. and the photos I was sent didn't give me a definitive yes/no.
any ways turns out my TD42T is infact a TD42TDi.
This leaves me with the question of what to do regarding the pump, the options i can think of are as follows;
1. run it as is and not connect up TPS or Timing solenoid. and set timing to around .67 ($0) (is it possible to just strip the electrical components off the pump?)
2. Exchange unit for a rebuilt boost compensated TD42T pump (around $1200-$1500)
3. Source TD42TDi ECU & work that into my vehicle ($???, but heaps of extra work)
I have tried searching, but cant find a solid answer.

I agree - it is much easier to go down the non-ECU controlled route ..... but you are in a bit of a bind ...
I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs, but have you tried asking the Engine Supplier for the matching ECU out of the vehicle, since he supplied it, and the loom too although he would want payment for the loom I would think....
As a second option, if it is too hard / costly, they should take the engine back too

Engine was freighted Brisbane to Adelaide, and I'm happy with the engine, so returning it is not really an option.
I will contact the vendor tomorrow, just to see what sort of response I get.
Although looking at the diagrams, working the ECM into the ZD30 swap will be a complete nightmare.
I think either a S/H pump, or finding a diesel specialist, preferably in Adelaide, that will exchange the TDi pump (maybe even throw them the old ZD30 pump as a sweetener) for the boost compensated manual pump is going to be the best solution.

Fair enough too - once you have one in your hands, it is hard to let go.
Lets hope it works out easier than it looks.....
