3rd anf 4th gear
Hey.
Was driving the patrol the other day and i noticed that 3rd and 4th gear grinds abit and takes a extra push to get them into gear.
Syncros?
Oil?
Im hoping its not a rebuild.
The oil in it is about 12,000ks old?
My mate suggested putting a thicker oil in.
Any info would be great

Oil type can make a difference. What oil did you put in last time? You must use a API GL4 oil in the patrol manual.

I use a 75w-90 semi synthetic gear oil by hi-tech oils. As long as it's API GL4 then you should be fine either in a 75-90 or 80-90.

And here are the details for the Sydney area.

I went from castrol EPX80-90 which is a GL5 oil and noticed cooler box temps and smoother changes. The smoother changes didn't happen immediately but it's certainly nicer now after 10k than what it was.

Had a similar problem after buying second hand, took it back to dealer and they replaced synchro. No charge. All good now.
