I'm also so against retreads they cost ya more in the long run , Side wall ply also is another thought especially if ya going off road lots.

Tread wear rating is written on most 4x4 tyres so a tyre’s tread wear is measured under controlled conditions involving an 11,500 km drive on a specified test course, and compared to a ‘standard’ tyre with a rating of 100.

A rating of 200 indicates that the tested tyre should last twice as long as the standard model. So the higher the number, the longer you can expect a tyre to last. 650 is the highest reading

retreads are good for trailers but that's about all there good for and maybe be even for a spare just to get you home but running retreads on a daily driver is not a good idea

ive heard of one case where the tire started to peel off after 6 months use, after speaking to a local tire place, cant remember too much, but just a FYI, majority of trucks on the freeway use retreads, cause its cheaper to do so, BUT in saying so, they only use them on the rears only, same deal with air crafts, i guess has something to do with too much strain on the turning wheel, causing peeling

    personally i wouldnt touch re-treads

Truck rarely use retreads anymore as it does not pay... the price of tyres has come down a lot for trucks and the time lost on the freeway stuffing about with treads flying off far outways the cost of putting proper tyres on.

This is from a conversation I was having the other week with an owner of a trucking company with 10 trucks in his fleet.... so if I am wrong its cause I am a sucker.. bwa !!!!!!!

Personally I believe ALL retreads should be banned. Hitting a truck retread carcass in middle of night at 100km/h is not fun.
