engine light on and power loss :(
hey all, just after some advise, was driving my gu3 zd30 the other day and engine warning light came on, and lost power, im guessing limp mode. took it to a diesel specialist and had it scanned, it is coming up with code 77. he has told me that my pump is stuffed and i need to buy a new one. i have tried to do a little research on the code before forking out for a new pump but cant seem to find much on code 77, except some references to 0707. are they the same code? or does anyone now what code 77 is exactly? would like to make sure it is the fuel pump before getting it reconditioned. when i first got the code a mechanic mentioned that it may be a blocked fuel filter, so had that replaced and fault still appears. when i first start the car it doesn't show code and seems to have full power for about 5 seconds, then engine light appears and power loss. cheers, Geoff

can't find it in ATM but I'll keep looking as I saw some error codes in it

have you cleaned the MAF sensor? also check to make sure the catalytic convertor hasn't collapsed

i was in town when the engine light first came on so i took it straight to a mechanics and had it scanned, he told me it was coming up as pump failure but didn't tell me a code number. he scanned it from under steering wheel inside car. i was not charged for this scan. first thing i tried was getting a new fuel filter fitted. mechanic told me the old filter was not dirty or blocked. i then took my car home which was approximately 50km drive. drove fine down the highway but i only did around 90kmph. engine did not get hot and seemed to drive normally except lacking power and engine light was on. i then booked it into a diesel specialist as they said they could connect there scanner to the pump it self to find out what is going on. he gave me a receipt with code 77 (start-of-injection control signal improbable) and told me i need a new pump. but when i double checked with him if it was definitely the problem he didn't seem 100% sure. i tried to do a little research on the code before trying to get my pump reconditioned to make sure it was definitely the cause as i was quoted from $4500 to $5500 to have it done. which i cant currently afford. and dont seem to be able to find code 77. unless it is code 0707 and just comes up as code 77 because it is read as 2 numbers 07 07 from the scanner.
i cleaned the maf sensor approximately 2 months ago. and did some research on this forum and followed the steps to test it with multi meter and seemed to be working correctly.
fuel primer: i can pump the primer approx 3 or 4 times then it goes firm
Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated
