tread patterns mods?
Hi
Has anyone eve done their own mods on tread patterns to get some different results.
My radial treps are old and hard but not badly worn, they would only have 15-20k I wanted to start playing around with tread design but have no Idea what does what
I am just wondering if I cut the middle lugs following the grooves from the side wall what changes they could make?

Yeah that would make quite a difference I reckon Bene. Have seen a few sets re grooved and altered like that. John Biders did a similar mod to a brand new set of 37" kevlars he ran on his comp truck at last years Cliffhanger.
I wold expect it to give you a reasonable increase in grip.
Do it mate.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Wouldn't the small lugs that you make when you re-groove just chew out quickly especially doing rocky stuff?

Dunno thats why I am asking. Its a 12.5 inch tyre split into 4 lugs, there are plenty of tyres on the market with smaller lug than what I could make?

you mention they have gone hard with age, they should also flex better and be quieter on Rd.
may break lugs off more easily if there to far gone.
IF IT'S NOT A NISSAN.
THEN IT'S A COMPROMISE

I have organised for the fronts to get regrooved tomorrow, the local tyre shops wouldnt do it.. I ended up at the local exhaust shop that also build speedway cars.
I have marked the 2 centre lugs and have also started cleaning up the grooves in the lugs but they need a bit more work.

Looks nice mate.
Not hard to make a re Grover, but you'd want some good repository equipment..
The aim of the game it to get what's causing the slippage outta way of the rubber to make better contact.
The best grip tyre are slicks. But add a touch of rain and there useless.
So you add patterns. This allows a path for the water to exit from under the Tyre..
Anyway.. There is only one way to find out..

They will be great I reckon Bene. They will wear faster but they have gone hard anyway! Should be great. Will really help them flex up around rocks and stuff at low pressure I think for sure. Really loosen up the tread blocks.
