Ok time for an update i think. This wont aid my argument for the toyota motor but i think it may have done a head. apparently this is rare for these motors but mine has some of the symptoms. im still checking before i pull it to bits though. i got a new steel sump made for it and it looks awsome and has no leaks which is also awsome. it now holds 8.5lt of oil..... lol. im still having trouble with the clutch and all i can say about that is if your thinking of doing any v8 conversion DONT use the crappy dellow kits there very badly designed. It is nice being able to drive it though its been way too long. i really cant wait to get it out in some mud but im a little way off being ready for that.
i also recently bought a 12000lb winch for it. Not sure how im gonna go about mounting yet but ill get there.
Update. since my last post i have now fitted my winch and its already saved a triton up a dune. ive sorted my clutch finally, and its soo easy its like theres nothing there. i had to extend the shaft from the slave cylinder and grind some of the bellhousing out. ive also pulled the heads off expecting to find a problem and i sorta did but it was unrelated to why i pulled the heads off. ive also mounted a roof rack on it too. other than the motors out its been going really well its just like any conversion its just the finishing touches to go. In the next few weeks ill have it complied ( hopefully ) and be going up to the flinders. i decided to write myself a list of things to be done and OMG it got big hahaha. but as projects are its how it goes. ill try get some pics up for you guys but i tend to just go to the shed and get all black so i cant use the camera. its been a bit of a mission this car but i think in the end itl be worth it, me and the misses both love to cruise around in it. Thinking of the misses just before i pulled the motor out she was telling me how she was chasing some commodores up a hill weaving in and out of traffic the other day. guess they thought the old mav would be slow especially with a girl driving it. hahahaha soo wrong.
Mate put an Infiniti V8 into his shorty Mav, plenty of get up and go.
Surely you must be lifting wheels powering hard out of corners,
My troopy with a 350 chev did, Excellent choice of motor too BTW
Have you kept it quiet or put a bit of a note on it.
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
Yea the infinity is pretty good if i didnt go the 1uz that woulda been the next choice. it goes pretty good not as good as you chev woulda, will be better when the charger goes on but as it is theres no shortage of power on the road... or off it.
Its got extractors 4 into 1 ( or 8 into 2 ) then from the two 2inch pipes into one 3inch past the gearbox back to two 2inch through two cats then back to one 3inch straight through muffler whith a 3inch gu tail pipe out the back. so yes its a little too loud ill needa quiten it before the inspection but it does sound good. my fatherinlaw had a vs 5lt in a mav and he swears they sound exactly the same. ill prob swap out the straight through muffler for a chambered one see how that goes. theres nothing quite like the sound of a v8 an i live by the moto all v8's must be herd.
