What about raising the hight of those bars on the trailer and fit a roof top tent?........ but I'm guessing trouble will ensue if the need to retrieve anything from inside the trailer

Yea thanks Clunk - that's a possibility and also taking the pod top off and putting a camper tent on top. I'm sure you know the feeling starting off with a simple idea and ending up trying to rearrange the universe.

Nah, I usually give up before having an idea

Now thats a good idea... You'd need stabilizer legs on the trailer but may work. Make the entire thing removable so you can even sit it on the ground and still use the roof top tent. I saw this when up on the Murray last easter. A falcon ute drove part our camp with this steel frame thing bolted to his ute tray, this frame had the roof top tent on it. The next day we went for a walk and the entire frame was off the ute and on the ground and the tent still ontop but all setup. the then had covered storage underneath the tent and still had their car to drive around in.
Wish I had taken a photo of this. Awsome setup...

Might be possible to hinge it using some solid gate weldable hinges

check that out for build ideas, ive got heavy duty long gas struts underneath it and it lifts up all nice and easy. its hinged from two but removable gate hinges from bunnings, and its held down by two of those clips things that hold ute tray sides on??? lol
