Thermo's on or under the IC is a waster of time for the amount you will gain, pretty much nothing. I have read so many people who have done this mod have just gone and removed it as it didn't achieve anything. The better option, albeit, bloody expensive, it to get the scoop like TD has. I have one also and that will do far more than any fan will.

There is a lot of miss information about fans on intercoolers,
I was looking through some of my older 4wd action mags and came across issue 197, there is a patrol crd with a fan on top of the intercooler,
The owner saying it has made a massive difference to egt and a slight increase in power and torque wtf.

From the tests I've done with cotton and blue tack , I found the OE IC
gets very little air flow as the bulbar drags the air down near driving lights.
Maybe 75% gets through but only when speeds get up to 85KPH and over
the larger scoops allows the IC to work at speeds down to 60KPH.
Jury is out on the fan, Ok if doing heaps of sand work

I think putting a fan on top of the intercooler is just going to create a restriction to air flow, more so at higher speed.
An 8 inch fan is not going to push as much air as what would go through the scoop at 60 or even 40 kmh.

I don't think an OE scoop will be working at 60 let alone 40 try the cotton test.
Plus how many times have you seen a bug go into the scoop 99% of the time it misses
You would put the fan under so you don't restrict air flow from the top
