    quarter chop rust prevention?

I am starting my quarter chop tomorrow and I am using pre made plates off ebay ($30) My question is as I am going to be welding them on how should I go about rust prevention. If I pre paint them then the heat from the welder will burn it off and its not great for welding anyway. So should I just weld them on then use lots of primer squirted down through the tail light? Then something like fish oil? I was also going to put a drain bung in the plate just in case. Any thoughts ideas would be great.

You can zinc enriched weld through primer. Not sure where general public can get it, but my work gets it from wurth. Spray it on first then weld away.

Thanks mate but have already done it. Due to the overwhelming response I just did what I thought was right!
