Works with an Aldi SIM for $15 a year with a free app to monitor it
Only issues with these are the somewhat limited coverage with Aldi mobile outside major centres and the uncertain future of the 3G network on which they operate. But you should get a few years out of it, and it is probably cheap insurance. Try talking to your insurance company to see if you are eligible for a discount once this is fitted.

Those are certainly valid points about the network coverage. It's only a cheap unit, so I wasn't expecting top notch, but it's great peace of mind and one step up from your car vanishing and wondering where it went.
Yeh I did think about contacting my insurance company, I'll definitely do that.

I run 3 cheap $99 3g trackers on aldimobile. Coverage is via telstra, so it is excellent. I can review where the car has been via my app (keelin, chinese server) and there are no dropouts.
Make sure you put it somewhere with a clear view if the sky, not under metal....

So the unit needs to be physically visible like a satellite pick up instead of an rf pickup? That seems contrary to how these devices are marketed doesn't it? I have been considering getting one of these but thought for greatest value it should not be visible or free to find by the thief?

im sure you could use with an external antenna? and hide the actual unit somewhere?

Yeah, I guess but its not quite as covert as perhaps its made to appear. I know a number of units I have looked at all state you can hide them under the dash or 'out of sight', some do from memory have a little paddle remote antenna, others don't. Just curious with the performance caveat.

Dont stress , you will be fine if it is under glass and plastic, like concealed under your dashboard. Dont put it under your bonnet, or tuck it under your roof liner. Have not put one in the pooey yet, but it will go under the dash close to where the windscreen meets it.
I have one in a VE dunnydoor under the rear parcel shelf liner, out of sight, works fine.

Oops! Should have been a bit more detailed with the clear view of the sky bit.
Plastic and glass dont bother gps signals very much. Metal is your enemy!

    Sorry about that!

What brand is the GPS tracker you use? I'd be interested to try one of the Chinese ones but I wasn't sure how well they worked here.

I'll be sure to mount mine where the signal isn't compromised. I'm testing different areas of the car to see how it goes for signal strength.
