bronze filter in the fuel line banjo bolt on the rear of fuel pump 99 diesel
OK I know the sintered bronze filter is to stop any fluff from new fuel filters but cant find a answer to why there is a little hole on the side and its function .The reason I'm chasing this info is can it be drilled to a bigger size because everytime I clean the filter and the hole with co2 cleaner the td4.2t goes like a rocket then slowly drops back till the next clean usually about month to month and a half.

G'day Dad,
this is not to help you but rather to clue me up a bit.
My previous troll was a non turbo td42 and I haven't got the faintest memory of any bronze fuel filter, let alone cleaning it. Is this an after market item? Mine only had the standard filter which you drained water from and replaced each 40K (I think)...... Diesel from tank to filter to injector pump etc..
Dunno what you've got but if it clogs and stuffs your performance/economy within that short a time I'd be looking for help as well, unless of course you're doing say 40K per month.
Can't drop us a photo I 'spose?
regards
Col

COL.T it's not a massive difference but just a nice to have and it's stock standard 1 bloke on the Barkley Hwy thought he had done his turbo till I cleaned it for him 1 happy camper . Just trace your fuel lines too the back of the pump and you will see two fuel lines and a 17mm bolt undo the bolt with 2 copper washers give it a clean and the top end revs are up there .

My GUIV TD42Ti does not have the filter in place. My research tells me that many guys run without it and many did not come with that banjo filter from factory regardless of the pump having a spot for it. I understand that many remove it due to the restrictions it creates and it does not seem to reduce the performance.
If yours is being clogged that quickly it's concerning. What is clogging it? Dirt or fluff? What brand of fuel filter are you running?
Hope that helps.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!
....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

MR normally Donaldson right through and yes I did know some models run without it and am thinking of give it the flick . Those type of filters are found in euro trucks mercs etc and are a real pain .

Some further info while we are cleaning the bronze filter ; in the bolt that secures the banjo you will see a small hole clean that as well .I use oxy tip cleaner and CO2 cleaner to do this as its function after 3 mths research is to hold fuel pressure in the del side of the pump. (Thanks to DIESEL TEC Mackay for the info)
