    BBQ plate wanted!

Looking for a nice heavy duty camp fire BBQ plate. Not one of these BS thin plates that don't hold the heat and burn everything either. One with collapsible legs that folds flat and has half a grill. The one I used to have has gone walkies. Had to cook steaks on the upturned camp oven lid for the last few trips (which works a treat) but it is time to get it sorted again and nothing I have seen in the shops really does it for me.

Does anyone make them or know someone who does?

You can buy these as kits, and the plate is 4mm from memory.

Have never gone for the pole type as I once saw one fall over when loaded with scotch fillets. There was a lot of swearing at the cook that night.

Size? Hmm. About the size that fits in an old sugar bag? Whatever that is.

    Will send you a PM.

Thanks Kallen, Thought I'd post a description of what I had in mind in case anyone has a suggestion. Maybe PM me a price if that's ok?

Not real sure of size but I reckon maybe total length of around 650-700 x half that as width. 4 or 5mm plate would be ideal with an edge all the way around. Like a 20mm piece of flat bar made to follow the outside of the plate?

Folding legs that fit inside the 20mm total height?

A brace across the legs that can be grabbed with the camp oven lid lifter to drag it out of the fire.

20mm might be a bit narrow, not sure but you get the idea.

Got an idea in my head, half and half plate and grill, or full plate??
Probably go 30 on the side, 10 above and 15 below (5 for the plate..)
How high would you like it to sit??
    Cheers

Yep sounds good. Half grille, half plate. Something that sits about 30cm off the ground roughly?

    All,

Kal is going to have a crack at making up this BBQ for me. It will be as above with 5mm plate. H-style folding legs that fold flat beneath the BBQ and a handle on one end. Should be nice and heavy and perfect for camping.

Cost will be around $150 plus freight if anyone else is interested. Given that the shite quality BBQ's in the camping stores are 3/4 of that price anyway, I reckon it is a good deal for a solid bbq plate that will last a lifetime.
