    Body swap

Down the track I'm looking at swapping my engine and accessories into a tidier body. I realise that I probably won't be able to put my 2006 engine into a later body.

Question: will the TD42i mate up to an auto gearbox without dramas, or should I be looking for a "manual" donor only?

Probably not mate. I would expect a conversion kit will be needed. I would be taking your engine and box into the new car when it's time.

Not sure where you are but give Brett a call at 4wd Obsession to discuss this conversion as he is doing Heaps of them. He always seems to have at least 1 zd30 to TD42 conversion happening mate.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

A td42 will bolt to the autos out of the 3 litres. Getting them to work though is a little trickier but it is possible.

I thought you were not able to get it engineered with an older engine into a newer car. I thought that was basically a "no" because of emissions stuff etc

Yeah mate. I think patrolapart have done it or maybe even wholesale automatics.

As long as you find anything up to 06 you will be fine. You would be laughing if you could get a ti or stl.

My current car is a 2006, so a 2006 or earlier car will be fine.

What he said Lucas, all Astro really wants is a tidy body, won't make real difference if its a 2004 GUIV or 2013 GU8 they are near identical. It would be in his interests to avoid something with Traction Control and other mod ons for simplicity so he is probably looking 2005 to 2006 anyway.

Yeah a Ti or STL would be sweet!

And they are getting Cheaper and Cheaper Astro.

Once you have done the swap you will get coin for lots of bits off your current too mate. Coin for your engine, box, diffs etc will offset your purchase for sure.

Good luck mate. Mat is your man for tech on that for sure bud.
