small doudle sided step ladder workes for me
just remember to take the belt off as it will scratch the shit out of the paint work as you lean over
also got one of those tyre steps good for getting the stuff of the roof rack

Careful using crates and chairs, changing the rear oil filter is pretty far down the bay and if you lean too much forward the crate gets away from you and you can chin yourself on the front quarter...LMAO

I stand on the bullbar and if I really need something in the back of the engine section, I'll find a stable spot to kneel in the engine bay. Very painful especially like the other day when I adjusted the valve clearances and the engine needs to be hot. Need to invest in a step ladder I think.

Small aluminium work platform from Bunning's for $39, Use it camping as a work bench, fire side table for cooking or coffee / beers, lunch stop quick table, seat, shower bench.

Ah the good old days when you did that on the FJ Holdens.
Tappet Cover off, Motor running and adjusting Tappets whilst sitting on Mudguard with Feet in Engine Bay.
They don't make Cars like that anymore (Thank God) LOL
