    To many kms to turbo?

    Hey everybody

I've got myself a 89 td42 with just over 400k and I'm wanting to turbo it to give it that extra bit it needs, but at the same time not wanting to blow the old girl up. Guess I'm sort of wondering where the line is before its just not going to agree.

Hay mate. Ask all to jump over and introduce yourself first. Bit about your rig and yourself.

As for the car, you can turbo it at any age, just don't over do it..

    G'day Biggy and welcome.
Go the intro. bit and maybe the profile thing 'cause without that nobody really knows a thing about you.
Had a 4.2D GQ for 400+K and loved it. Bog stock standard. Wouldn't turbo without reason. Yep, it GOES but I just loved pulling on the manual throttle and chugging up creeks, rocks etc..
Dunno how that goes with turbo. Not too good with a 3.0CRD.
    Good luck with the troll

How is the rest of the car? .....if it is rusting to bits, then don't throw good money at it. How long are you going to keep it? Do you get itchy feet and change vehicles every six months?

If the rest of the car is OK too, and you are considering keeping it for three years, then go for it......

Oh, and you have the old Silver Top 4.2 as well......strong as an ox, as it had heavier duty internals, compared to the black tops straight after these.

The car is very tidy IMO. There are no bad rust spots and iv been over it pretty well, the paint is not show worthy but not bad especially for the age. I'm only the second owner and I bought it of a old guy. I've had it for 2 and a half years now maybe even a bit longer. I done the head on it not long after I got it just my luck... it didn't miss a beat untill I got a shit tank of fuel that killed the injectors and pump wasn't to happy to say the least. When I had that done I had it put on the dyno and I got 52kw.

I say go for it Bigbird......

The kits are under $3,000, and it you can get it fitted for that you would be as happy as a pig in mud.....

Make sure that you upgrade the exhaust, and get it tuned to suit, as part of the package, as then you will get the best out of it.

    Cheers Mic

I'm sure I will be. I have been looking into a few of the DIY turbo kits some of the guys have done on here and I'm leaning towards making something up myself just for the cost and I don't mind giving it a crack, how else are you going to learn if you dont ask questions and try it right? I have made a few exhausts with work so I'm gonna knock something up there.
