Well seeing as nothing else has been happening I decided to strip my spare gearbox today to see if my fear of a sad 5th gear were correct, unfortunately the were. Ill finishing washing it up in the morning and get a parts quote to see how crazy it will be to fix. Going to call marks adapters because I swear they used to make an upgrade kit with long splines on the mainshaft. But all I can find is gear ratio changes.
Also will call terrain tamer and see if there is any help there.
Well. 2 months since anything real has happened and im very down about it. Its all out of my hands and its doing my head in. I have no motivation. Sigh.
With the gearbox you can actually by the revised but through Nissan. Garry at nizzbits or patrolapart will be able to help you. If you haven't sourced this already.
Yeh. I found the parts in the end but the figures were getting pretty high so will run my gearbox until it gives up the ghost and then build the spare. Should have cash up by then.
Im also starting to worry the pwr barrel might not be up to the task of keeping intake temps where they need to be.
Unsure which way to go. Suggestions?
I have just done a custom setup using a frozen boost 1200hp core, m2r heat exchanger, Davis Craig 115lpm water pump and 1" lines. Works great after a hard run you can put your hand on the core and it's only just warm. We still have a bit of tuning to do but haven't seen Egt's go over 300 post turbo.
Frozen boost cores are pretty good mate. I haven't heard of one failing in a patrol application. We are using a Garrett 3067 with 12mm pump. We opted for the larger core to make sure we had no restrictions.
Pwr are adament their 570hp barrel (halved for a diesel) will cope. Will see how it goes and add an extra heat exchanger if need be.
Picked up a fuel tank for it today and a new timing case yesterday (was pitted behind water pump and at $230 it was a headache I decided to avoid).
Turbo, manifold, dump, etc should be here Monday or Tuesday.
Was going to build the engine today but work got in the way of that.
Going to run my belly tank and standard rear tank with a solonoid and switch to change tanks giving me a total capacity of 150 lts for less than $500 (including purchase of tank, senders, twin fillers and solonoid) as opposed to $1000 for a 147 liter long ranger. Also means I have more ground clearance and if puncture a tank they can be independantly run from eachother.
