    GQ pootrol

It's been a while since I've been on here and even longer since I've spent money on the patrol! But the finances have recovered after the new bike and its time to make the rig what I finally want.

This thread is to just show my basic GQ, but I want to use it as motivation to keep me moving forward, otherwise I lost interest and it all fizzles out.

I've never been an extreme fourby person, so it suits my needs how it is, and once I do a few more things it will be the perfect car for a few years to come. As it sits its a TB42 EFI on gas as well, and it shits me to tears, anyway, the mods:
    - Dobinson 3" lift with suspension stuff shocks.
    - Arb delux winch bar, side steps (they are terrible) and rear bar.
    - Tigerz 12,000 pounder with rope
    - IPF driving lights with cheap HID conversion
    - Roofrack
    - Rear LED's behind spare
    - 33" MTZs
    - Alloy airbox, 2.5" exhaust and extractors
    - Alpine head unit, amp and sub
    - UHF and water temp gauge
    - Waeco CFX when out and about

Pretty much a run of the mill GQ.

    The to do list:
    - Build my diesel and freshen the spare gearbox I have to put in.
    - Sliders and snorkel (once I decided where my new airbox will be going).
    - Dual batts
    - Possible front diff lock
    - Theres more but I can't think of it and will only happen as funds present
    - Sell off the gas system, engine and gearbox and go back to a long range tank and sub tank.

Just set it up for a bit of long distance stuff and still be cheaper than me buying a 4.2 gu. The specs for my new engine will be:
    - Silvertop TD
    - PPM H beam rods so I can fit 30mm gudgeons and late model pistons
    - Late model turbo pistons, ceramic and teflon coated.
    - United fuel injection TD05 18g turbo
    - Unsure who will do my fuel pump and injectors as yet but most likely 11mm with boost comp, will discuss needs of 12mm and how much fuel economy I'll lose
    - DTS low mount manifold to keep space to a maximum
    - Will decide on intercooler setup as I get closer to completion
    - 3 inch exhaust with some sort of muffler to keep sound to a minimum at 100kph.

All my research is finally getting put into motion. It's been a long time coming.

Once that is all done, it will be a good rig that I can cruise long distances in and not have to fill up at every servo i see. Then go and see some of this country.

So there the dirty troll is, keep me motivated!

Well, still waiting on my rods to be completed from PPM. Its been almost 4 weeks so must be getting close (apparently a delay from their bush supplier?). Will most likely order my pistons and rebuild kit in the next fortnight. Get the block all cleaned, prepped, pistons coated, and assemble the long motor. Then just turbo and fuel pump. Getting there.

Gunna start picking up guages as well. And keeping an eye out for big fuel tanks that may come up at a good price. Pricing up PWR water air intercooler. Still got to measure and see what size front mount I can fit and compare prices/gains. Air to air will be substantially cheaper but running of intercooler piping will take a lot of space. New 3 core rad as well to suit the diesel.

    Exciting times.

Well a lot has happened since my last post, accumulated a few parts and almost ready to start building the engine. I've got my clutch/flywheel, H Beam rods to convert to 30mm gudgeons, td42t ceramic/teflon coated pistons, all rebuild parts, new crank pulley/balancer, and pwr water/air intercooler. Also added a fridge slide to my Waeco.

    Few pics:

Just gotta get the machine work done and build the engine, then want a plazmaman intake manifold, 12mm Diesel Central pump and 18g TD05 UFI Turbo. Then its all small stuff till the conversion.

Have discovered a lot of slight differences and similarities between the td42 and td42t that there is a lot of bull about on the internet at times, I will clear it up in another post. Until then....

A lot of bull crap and misinformation is spread online about these engines and works/doesn't work. It makes it a night mare for anyone trying to see good information about them. These are my discoveries. TD42/TD42t myths and similarities:
    - Gudgeons are different - TD42 28mm, TD42t 30mm
    - Oil squirters are different (between standard TD42 pistons and TD42t pistons with cooling gallery in crown)
    - Oil pumps are different - Larger rotors and more flow in a TD42t, but will fit into a TD42 for better lubrication
    - Crankshafts are different - The flywheel boss on the TD42 is 86mm flywheel boss on TD42t is 96mm, balancer pulleys are different, main and big end journals are exactly the same\
    - Pre comps are bigger in TD42t - Pre comps are the exact same physical size, but are designed slightly different, TD42t pre comps will fit in a TD42 head.
    - Front are rear main seals are different (due to flyhweel boss and crank pulley)

Other than that there is not much difference.

    Dale.
