@ oncedisturbed did a little research and came across a 1910 imperial German butcher bayonet for the KAR98 mauser rifle
with pattern leather scabbard, sound ok to you, I have no idea

There are 5 different variants of the bayonet from 33-45 and none with a sawback as it was outlawed in WW1 with the Geneva Convention but they will fit most Mauser Rifles.
It appears that the saw back is a bastardised version of this bayonet in which they were taken back and modified to appear like the below but with a shorter blade;
That's great info , now from looking through all those reference pictures and whats on Ebay
I'm yet to see another the same, am I looking in the right places, or did they convert {change}
bayonets in the field.
Edit ::found out its a very rare 1913 bayonet to suit the Gew98 rifle,
but even this one had a tin scabbard not leather like my example.
but the good thing is its very desirable to the collector because its rare

Worth some good coin and your's probably more than this thread above due to it's condition and also the fact that is a leather scabbard and not a metal one. Made by E & F HÖRSTER SOLINGEN.
A lot of the one's I have found while researching your's have had an elongated blade which was a more standard format. Still trying to find where the leather scabbard / frog came from.
"IF" the bayonet and scabbard have matching number's, it's worth goes up as well.

I'll post pics of the markings a bit later, that's the one I saw as well. On pawn stars they had one and were told they filed the sawback onto them with a file in the field.
My example has no file marks at all. This bayonet has no connection to my Family, so no family history to check

Heres some pics of the marks
the one crossed out says 48.R.10.168 above that is 183 0r 189
and to think I was going to use it as a sticking knife for pig hunting.
Glad I didn't now
Just realised its 100 yrs old now

I will hunt around for this number 48.R.10.168 which may be the serial type number or a regimental number, top of the blade with crown etc will be the maker's mark
