Thread: Are 35's ok to have on my everyday Troll? or should stick with 33's?

    Talking Are 35's ok to have on my everyday Troll? or should stick with 33's?

    Doing the lift on my 99 GU and will need some new rubbers on it too. This is my everyday car as well, but take it offroad and like to hit the big stuff...
    Im contenplaing on wether i should just stick with the 33's, as i will only want to get 1 set of tyres... Or if i get 35's, which i would much prefer to get just for the simple reason of will be way better offroading, my main consern is if 35's will cause more ware and tear on parts or drive trains etc!? has anyone got 35's on there rig? or had any bad experince with 35's after a long period?

    Yes they put more strain on everything, wheel bearings, kings pin bearings, cvs etc. not mention they are also illegal in most states. Stick with 33's and use the money you would spend on 35's putting a locker in the front.

    x 2 its a lot of tyre to try and stop puts massive stress on brakes and other components,
    As suggested a 2" lift decent 33s and a front locker will see you go most places. IMO

    I drove my GUIV around with 35s on full time for a year or 2. Mine has 3.9 ratio diffs and was a little sluggish off the mark but all good.

    Not withstanding what Mat wrote above your car will handle 35s all day mate. Nissan tough.

    Its a Diff lock as it locks your axles so all 4 are turning if you have front and rear fitted
    Awesome off road traction google ARB air locker or TJM Prolocker

    Get 35s and deflate them down to 33s when on the road. :P

    If you are only going to run one set of wheels and you want 35's offroad, go the 35's. I've ran 35's on road for years with no problem. Wear and tear? Nah! I have had to attend very little to front end parts since owning this vehicle for the last 8 years and 360k. If you ran 35's offroad, nothing would be said re wear. Onroad won't give you any noticeable extra wear and tear.

    While 35s will increase loadings the Nissan drivetrain is the styrongest around and can handle it.

    The weakest point will be the wheel bearings, but the steering will feel the effect too so just make sure that those components are serviced more regularly than scheduled and you should be good to go.

    Note that you will have other things to think about beyond the wear and tear. The vehicle will handle less precisely (is "precisely" a word you can use in relation to ANY Patrols handling?) and you may get sick of feeling like you are steering a boat around. You may also find that some car parks are out of bounds too.
