Axle less suspension for camper.

suspension aint really going to help then. and with the camper you cant just raise it otherwise your tent wont reach the ground..
Another option you can do is fit air ride adjustable shocks.. by adding compressed air you increase ride height, and then deflate when setting up camp..

Would this setup really save weight if you then need to install a skid plate system to protect the underside of the trailer?

I reckon going axle-less would be best coupled with a brand spanker design, the tent being modified at the end if need be? For example the previous trailer pic has far greater take off and departure angle problems than axel problems. (as previously pointed out) the axle will be able to put up with some skull dragging, the body of that trailer may not.

The skid plate is for the hitch only, not something I've done but I like the idea.

And I've already done an axle swap over and put on 33's and can't go any higher due to the tent so only other thing would be axle drag.

I’ve put vehicle components independent suspension on my camper and it is amazing. It tows so well on and off road you don’t even realise you have a trailer on.

The design first post is a nice idea except for the fact it's mounted to a very light weight looking frame.
All weight is concentrated on the mounting point of the new suspension kit.
Not a good idea.

we all know that heavy loads need to be spread over a chassie like a leaf spring does for example.
hence why coil shock tower rear ends crack if pushed to hard.
looks like all sideways play is taken by 1 pivot point, how suspect is that!

That shouldn't be too hard to fabricate, take in mind to all these systems probably only use Ford or Holden bearings ,there is your weak spot.
I'm toying with the ide of a 4 link set up under my trailer to replace the greasable leaf springs I have ATM. Still restricted in my case as wheels will only travel so far into the guard. I'll do some sums and see what articulation I can achieve, I'll be using Patrol components from PPL who have change ther suspension
