how well do these protect the diff drain plug? looks like it doesnt cover it? or does it?
Do they still get smashed into oblivion?

Pretty unlucky to smash the drain plug. Mal leaves it open for access.

One of the best bit of protective kit you can fit under your car... we have guys on here who have damaged there pumpkins in a bad way but I know of none since fitting one of these guards!!!!

I destroy my drain plug a bit further everytime I wheel

Yep, the guard surrounds the area of the plug which would deflect rocks and logs a lot more than nothing.

If you wanted extra protection for the plug you can weld on a bit of tube on the diff.
