Bellbrook to Wauchope - The Carrai Plateau

Last weekend a group of Dads and their sons went on an adventure. The plan was to travel from Bellbrook to Wauchope, via the Carrai Plateau.

All the pics below were taken using my phone camera, so some of the colouring is not the best.

First stop was at an old cabin on McKenzie's Creek Road. Tom (one of the Dads) had camped here in the past as his wife's family had a connection to the property.

There were a few bushfires in the ridges to the south and west of where we were. We weren't sure whether we'd get through or not, and at one stage we were thinking of a Plan B, maybe a weekend at George's Junction or the Styx River somewhere.

Just south of the hut is an intersection, Fife's Fire Trail to the west and Kempsey to the east. As we headed up Fife's we mat a local fella that was checking out the fires. He advised us that the gates along the fire trail were locked and we'd need to find another way to the top.

After a chat, he ended up guiding us around to Willi Willi. A great gesture. From there it was on to the ridges in the west.

Just before Daisy's Plains we came across a Toyota wearing Lada Niva badges

Then along a bit further and came across another clearing. This little hut looked like what I expect the Vic Alps to look like in summer. McMillan's house.

Along a bit further, and at another clearing we came across what looks like an old steam engine used to drive a saw mill. Could be wrong though.

After the kids had finished climbing all over the old machinery we headed off to Mary's View, while keeping an eye open for a camp spot for the night.

Sunday morning, and the camp was all made up by 9am and we were on the road.

First stop the site of an old saw mill near Kookaburra, an old village site.
