My GU
Thought I might start a thread on my GU. It's my first time owning a 4WD, decided it was time to sell off the fast cars and get out and saw some of our great country with the family in tow!
Swapped the missus' old car (2006 Territory) for this at a local stealership - pretty sure I got the better end of that deal. Word of advice DO NOT buy a Territory. Ever.
I drove it around for a few months as a stocker - and in the process began getting disheartened with the whole 4WD caper - as the Patrol was a gutless slug, and just a sad, boring car to drive.
I cracked the shits last weekend and did the following:
Plugs & Leads
Valve clearances
Did the timing
Cleaned the MAF
New o2 sensor
New oil and filters
and did the resistor mod for the transmission.
This pretty much transformed the car. It's 10 times better to drive now. Which is probably a given - seeing as the timing was set to 3 degrees BTDC, and the valve clearances were almost 1mm
So far I've done a few mods to it (progress is slow due to lack of funds - but I'm getting there):
Front recovery points
Self-fitted Snorkel
Tough Dog RTC Damper
15" Black Pro-Comps with 35" Micky Thompson's - picked up the wheels and tyres for $500
Homemade rear worklight holder / spare wheel spacer
Removed the standard alloy side steps - planning to build some rock sliders
Painted the factory alloy bar - going to get a winch plate and bolt a winch in behind this.
Tinted windows
A-pillar mounted Carling switches for winch, spotties, roof light bar (yet to purchase), and rear work lights.
Next round of mods is a 2" lift (as the one in it has pretty much sagged back to stock), and a new head unit / GPS, as the current one is knackered.
After that I'll look at getting a roof rack, LED light bar, new spotties (as the IPF's on it are full of rust/speed holes) and start thinking about building a rear bar + wheel / jerrycan carriers for it.
I'd also like to get a matching set of 33" muddies for it, but the cheapo 35's will do for now, anyway on with the pics!

3M undercoat and a couple of cans of Satin Black, came up pretty good I reckon.

Nah, for the auto I just went down to the local JayCar and bought a .40cent resistor. Seems to have woken it up a fair bit.
Still drinks like a fish though (close enough to 30ltr per 100km...)
