so what a/t tyres is everyone running????
im running maxxis bighorns atm, 33x12x15, thinking about changing to an a/t tyre....
so many choices out there!!!!!!
I run bravo 285/70/17's at on mine and they get good mileage and average offroad. Looking at a set of BFG at's for my next set as they have a more aggressive tread without being in the muddie range
Tap, Tap, Taparoo
2009 GU ST 4.8L AUTO WAGON, 2" OME LIFT, 33" A/T'S, ARB DELUXE BAR, WARN XD9000 WINCH, NARVA 170 SPOTTIES, SCRUB BARS / SIDE STEPS, LONG RANGE TANK, DUALL BATTS, REAR DRAWER SYSTEM, ARB AWNING, KAYMAR REAR WHEEL CARRIER, 3" ZORST
General grabber all terrains on the mrs maverick wagon , so far they've been the best all terrain we've had on it.
The wagon is driven daily on mainly gravel come clay come mud roads an these tyres have been faultless.
I recently switched from the BFG A/T to the Cooper A/T3. The BFG's were good and are used by a tonne of people. I got about 80,000k's out of them and rotated them fairly regularly. My only comment, and I'll qualify it, is that towards the end though they started to go a bit hard and lose a bit of traction. When I say they went a bit hard, I suspect it was probably to do with age as they were 8 or 9 years old, but they were still in 'legal' condition. Other tyres do this too, so I am not bagging the BFG at all. The new Cooper AT3 also seem good and perhaps would shed water on the bitumen a bit better than the BFG.
A mate has the General Grabber and rates them well for an all purpose tyre, and another mate has the Cooper STMaxx and is very happy with them. The STMaxx is obviously the more aggressive of the lot, but isn't a noisy tyre.
Good luck, so many options, it probably comes down to price.
Between Patrols ATM. Had a beaut GU with 6.5 Chev TD. Next is a GU ute with a 4.5 litre Cummins conversion and a camper on the back.
I can't remember what mine are called I think they're Maxxis 751s. Great in road, no noise and grip awesome. Great on rock and dirt but useless in mud. I use them as my daily tyres and they are great for it. Done about 20,000kms and about 25-30% worn
Recently put on Bridgestone D697's. They don't look as aggressive as some due to not having a 'square block' tread pattern, but nevertheless seem reasonable on slippery surfaces & look a bit 'chunkier' in the flesh than in pics. Haven't had them in deep mud, but on wet slippery tracks with a muddy & grassy surface & surface water they managed well. Quiet on bitumen, & seem fine on gravel roads. No idea how well they will last, but am happy with my choice at present.
