Hi all. 3.0 l or 4.2 l
hi everyone. I am looking to buy a Patrol Cab Chassis, 25k - 30k. Wondering if you guys could advise me on a good choice. What is the better engine in your opinions, the 3 litre or 4.2 litre. Thanks in advance.

If money permits mate the the all mighty 4.2 will see you through with torque, reliability and strength.
Nissan designed a beautiful engine mate!

You are just around the corner from me.
I had a rb30 carby motor in my MK, now I have a GQ with a carby tb42 - The 4.2 has more go & targue.
Both where ok off road - but I had to push the rb30 harder on hills.
The TB42 has great downhill holding - the rb30 tended to want to run off. With the TB42 I can drop it in first low and crawl down a hill, while I would be feathering the brakes with the RB30.
On the road - the Tb42 is easier to drive - less gear changes.
One advantage is that replacment rb30 motors are around $400 - a Tb42 is a lot more.
The TB42 on gas do have head issues.
Fuel wise the RB30 was around 2 liters 100k better the the tb42
Both motors can be tweaked (efi, tubo etc to make them go harder)
1991 GQ LWB 4.2 Carby dual fuel, 32 mud claws, 2 inch lift, LSD's front and back
And its Toooooooo High for the Ball & chain

the crd's don't hold value very well and you could get a late model in that range i think
