Legendary
Spot on MB , got nothing against the Lycra clad morons but wish some roads were bike free , it's an accident waiting to happen .
Also a few idiot drivers around who swerve onto your side of the road to go around a bike instead of waiting for you to go past first , my dashcam must have 50 images of exactly this .
Maybe they could introduce registration for bikes on certain roads and see if that doesn't stop them using dangerous roads .

I was the unfortunate one who saw the aftermath of a cyclists body run over on our road.
As mb photo shows, there's roads around our area that cyclists should not use for leisure riding. 80km speed limit, tight road, heavy tourist and logging route along with blinding corners.
Recipe for disaster!

Aren't us Vic drivers supposed to pass a cyclist with a metre gap? Near impossible to do on that road....

So sad AB, and I can't understand why that incident didn't shake the local council/Vic Roads up enough to ban cycling here for safety reasons as Robert suggests! What's also frustrated us locals and the truckers Robert is that some careless idiot of a cycling magazine journalist gave this stretch of highway a top 5 rating some years ago foolishly quadrupling the amount of riders today. Absolute brainless twit for falsely recommending it so highly!!!!!

I also can't understand why if a vehicle is doing more than 20kmph less than the legal speed limit then apparently they are breaking the law I was lead to believe? If so, then why can a cyclist travel on this 80kmph hilly winding highway at say 5-10kmph and be legal, go figure????

As mudski says you are supposed to pass keeping a metre clear , so on a road with double unbroken lines you legally can't pass as that would put at least one wheel over the line .
But if you don't pass traffic backs up tempers flare and mistakes are made .

These working logging blokes have no chance of stopping/swerving for a rider especially with a returning rig coming back on these corners!!

Well they don't pay any registration so they are exempt??? Nothing against cyclists. But I do think they need to now contribute towards some sort of registration if they want to continue using the roads and the road rules.

Agreed Robert, unfortunately the trucks do need to wind up speed for the hills as they are 30+Tonne and when they encounter an uphill corner with a cyclist below walking pace it's so so scary to watch :-(

SUCH IS LIFE
We had a cyclist killed not far from my place on Monaro hwy the other day, not really sure of the circumstances but a life lost never the less.
Something has to change or we're going to see more of this.
It's also sad that the government doesn't recognise this and puts the Lycra army onto the wrong roads for cycling events/training
