Mate I have a front Al, it's a pain in the butt. The minute you need 4wd your steering becomes infinitely heavier, which means either put up with it and become strong arm Steve or constantly go from 4wd to 2wd and back. Do you have Auto guns on yours still? I'm thinking manual hubs would help my cause alot, maybe it's more of a nessecity when Al are involved?

I reckon Marko's referring to an air locker. I like having the choice to be able to turn the locker off and on as required. Yet, some lock an auto locker.

Was ‘Angry’ once in our shared mountains when my last poorly air supplied setup froze!
Happy overall that any selectable lockers can front ‘off’ a nasty scrabble hairpin climb then ‘on’ again immediately thereafter. Rear selectable lockers IMO add another level too for serious push/shove up them hills and do still need ‘off’ on the real tight turns uphill. FWIW, rear lockers ‘on-only’ downhill is amazing for rocky lowering traction with keeping steering ability up front :-)

Cheers gents. I bit the bullet and grabbed an air Locker today. I was able to get it at Trade and the guy i have bought the diffs off will install it into the front centre for free.
Basically these centres i have bought have come our of a mates project car that has been a shed build for 7 years. He is nearly finished his build and recently bought 4.6s and GU diffs so took these centres out and stripped them of the Airlockers that where in them. They are in pieces on his bench and he put the rear centre back together for me today and i picked it up tonight. Just finished fitting it. He will put the front back together later in the week and putting an airlocker back in it versus an open centre is identical work so he was happy to throw it in for me and setup the backlash etc. I have saved about $700 all up on the locker versus a drive in drive out price. Winner. Could not not do it.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Sounds like a duct tape AND WD40 job. Got a fair idea of what you are going through. Best of luck with it hope it improves soon.

So, further to the accident on friday, Police have now advised the vehicle has suspended registration, has been rego checked multiple times in recent months and is known to them. I am waiting to hear what the next steps are but basically if it isn't registered it isn't insured, so this POS is driving around scott free, no repercussions from the law, and I am left with a damaged vehicle and out of pocket, fully frustrated. I don't understand the law, but a reasonable person might think that if a vehicle is unregistered and the police know about it and stop it on multiple times that a threshold needs to be in place and the car impounded. Police can't release a drivers name as they are yet to get the information from the trainee constable who took down my details, and has returned to straightening paper clips or whatever they do at the academy. How bloody hard would you think it is to pick the phone up, call this guy and get the name of the person managing him? Impossible it seems as still waiting for a responses from the plod brigade.
Likely outcome is police issue a demand on the last registered owner to disclose the driver, and failing that disclosure the matter goes to court and they are fined heavily for not supplying the info, but get this, not a single cent of that goes towards fixing my car or paying the insurance excess plus premium increases for the next 5 years due to the claim again my cover. Pissed off max right now.
If they are successful in getting a name, the insurance company has to deal with it and you can bet there is some small print in the exorbitant policy that lets them wriggle out of paying the repairs because the car that hit me was unregistered.
