.........
We’ve currently hired a temporary ‘Budget Rental’ auto/manual and my personal tests seem to be able to spank it around gears manually if needed down hills if that’s what you mean Rossco :-) ?

Anyone know anything about Hiace Vans?
Made the decision to buy one and do up as a camper. Don't know whether to go for the 3litre turbo diesel or the 2.7 litre petrol. Read that the 2.7 with an auto guzzles fuel.
I'm guessing the 3 litre is the same as they put in the Hiluxes?
Open to all suggestions. Also looking at Ford Transits, but don't know much about them.

We had a few hundred hiace vans as delivery vehicles at work. They were great, not overly comfy to drive but lasted forever and never had any issues.
They are all being replaced with Transits now which are much more comfortable to drive with more features but we are having endless troubles with them. A few engines have blown, turboes gone, panels popping off and huge electrical issues.

Yeah same with our Rangers which same motors I think. No motor problems but heaps of electrical problems with many of them, Ford were frick'n THE worst to deal with, never looked back after seeing the last one of them go. .

I think they started buying them in the early 2000s and only just gone away recently but will be going back. They do exchange them at about 200,000kms but very rarely have issues in that time.
As Rossco said, Ford were absolutely awful to deal with as well.

Always a fighter
And yesterday passed her physical training and is now a seasonal firefighter with the DPAW or also known as Forestry
Pritty proud I must say and one tough little chic although sometimes a little mentally frail she knows how to handle it know

We had a '95 Spacia 5 speed manual for a bit over 15 years and put a few hundred thousand ks on the clock. After the head gasket was replaced, the thing drank oil but kept on chugging along.
They are a bit hard to work on but not technologically advanced.
The Spacias already had carpet and some even had dual aircon. We looked at getting a 4wd version as a camper, but they were as scarce as rocking horse excrement.
It was totally stuffed when we finally sold it.
I never did find a workshop manual for it so trouble shooting was a bit hard.

Fleet of around 25 hiace vans were replaced last year.
They were the 3L d4d common rail motors. Same as the 3L Hilux. Variants. These things were our callout and faults vehicles and were on the road just about 24/7 for 6 years. They were flogged , used and abused, countless missed services and still going great with virtually no mechanical breakdowns. Just under 300k when they sold them off.
Can be uncomfortable as the seats are right above the wheel. You're literally sitting on the suspension spring.
