Door trims
Hi all,
I'd like to redo the door trims in my gq as the old ones seem to be a source of annoying vibrations and noises and just look dirty and awful. I was just wondering what people have used in the past in terms of what kind of wood and material to cover the wood? Carpet would be too thick im guessing, but it anyone can recommend a material and where to get said material. I wouldn't mind getting some sound deadening material to stick onto the door followed by the door trim, is this overkill? My main objective is to get rid of the annoying noises and rattles and also to make it look nice again.
Thanks all for reading
Andy

Go all out.. Shag pile baby.. and don't forget the fluffy dice..
Being serious now, uoi can use what ever you like.. swing past spot light, a few carpet places etc and have a look..
But don't forget the build thread..

There are a couple of threads on this site showing new door trims. Was one just the other day. Search for the threads re the new speakers into GQ s with electric windows
I'm liking the shag pile idea though!!!! Maybe some shag pile with checker plate trims! You know you want to! If you do know this=> it was my idea!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

I'm looking at the same project myself, the stumbling block I have been hitting is how to mount the new panel to the door itself, I have seen a few that are mounted with pop rivets but I don't want anything that permanent, in saying that though I was just gonna use MDF and speaker carpet its fairly palpable and its pretty close to my floor carpet and I was gonna use some checker plate for wank factor too.

Use the old trims as templates and get new 3mm ply or mdf. Ply is better, mdf is cheaper, your choice..
Also use the old ones as drilling templates for the clips.. and drill your backing.
Once cut to size, and holes drilled give the edges a coat of paint, black works best but again your choice.
Get your covering, cit it to shape and stick to the backing using liquid gel grip. It paints on, we used a $2 roller and threw away once done..
Did the side and rear door panels when I did the draw system.

Do you just use the old clips for the holes in the doors cause mine are fair shagged?
