TD42 Boost ?
Hi all ,
Got another question in regards to the amount of boost on the engine with out doing any damage .
I am after torque with fuel efficiency so after the turbo gave out while up at Fraser 12mth ago i got onto MTQ and dropped a Mitsubishi wheel and opened up the housing after her explained that the nissans where a little under powered and haven't changed their design in a few years also the exhaust with a 3inch dump pipe and stage-3 3inch system
Then went off to get it tuned on the dyno told the guy what i was after , he took two days and balls it up.
on the drive home it chewed about 20lts of fuel over 40km pushed out 21psi on the boost gauge and drove like a v8 .
So after a good blew over the phone and doing my a load of coin i backed it down to around 14psi but not quite sure if its to high after the original was only running around 7psi.

I am running 21psi, with a 12mm pump and getting 11-12 L/100
Is yours inter cooled?

Yep replaced the pump with a larger unit.
Before I inter cooled mine I ran 13 psi without a drama

How long have you been running those pressures , any probs with the engine after the pump was fitted ?
I bumped into a guy at the deny ute muster a while back and chatted to him about his turbo , said he was running high pressures and had no dramas but he had a bit in him so didnt really trust him .

There are guys out there running boost well into the 30's
The issue is once you are making about 850 ish Nm of torque guys are snapping cranks at No 6 . BUT. There could be many other factors that can contribute to that. Ie dropping the clutch at 4000 rpm.
A member here by the name of Bambil has a high power td42 around the 280hp mark and has done for a long long time without dramas

I'm a little confused , are you running 21psi or 13 psi ?
Are these other guys using there trucks in comps or something , cant say i have ever heard anyone going into the 30s and they must have done other mods to handle the high torque so as not to shag an engine

Before 13 psi and after 21psi mate. On the same turbo.
I am still waiting for the new one, that will be set to 24.
The Td42 is a strong engine. It can handle a a fair bit.

So no internal mods are not needed on the td42 you say , im already up to 170,00km and was thinking of full rebuild kit through it i think there only $2500 thats the reason behind the question about the boost , would rather sought any issues out before the rebuild .
Might try winding it up a bit more and see how the economy goes seems you are getting 11-12 L/100

You only have the standard pump, keep the boost where it is and get a dyno tune.
170,000 is hardly worn in. If it has had a good service history you'll be right. Looked after you will see well over 500,000 km doing the injectors and maybe a few seals overhauling the injector pump
